Kolkata: A 42-year-old woman from Hooghly’s Pandua was allegedly murdered by her husband after she refused him money for gambling.The incident had infuriated the accused who allegedly slashed the victim with a sharp weapon. The incident occurred late on Friday night and it sparked off tension at Nunedanga area of Pandua. The victim has been identified as Chandana Mistri (42). The police recovered the body from the house on Saturday morning. The accused, Nirmal Mistri, fled the house following the incident. According to the local sources, the accused had an old habit of investing huge sums in gambling for which he used to demand money from his wife quite often. This led to a heated altercation between the couple. As the situation turned worse, the accused indiscriminately slashed his wife and left the house. They got married around 20 years back and their only son currently stays in Bangalore. Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and its result is awaited. They are yet to confirm the actual reason behind the murder. Raids are being conducted to nab the culprit. Police are also investigating if the accused had been involved in any extra marital relationship.
